We Feel Fine.

We Feel Fine is an exploration of human emotion on a global scale.

Since August 2005, We Feel Fine has been harvesting human feelings from a large number of weblogs. Every few minutes, the system searches the world's newly posted blog entries for occurrences of the phrases "I feel" and "I am feeling". When it finds such a phrase, it records the full sentence, up to the period, and identifies the "feeling" expressed in that sentence (e.g. sad, happy, depressed, etc.). Because blogs are structured in largely standard ways, the age, gender, and geographical location of the author can often be extracted and saved along with the sentence, as can the local weather conditions at the time the sentence was written. All of this information is saved.

We Feel Fine was nominated for three 2007 Webby Awards in the following categories: Best Navigation/Structure, Best Visual Design / Aesthetic, and Net Art. Vote for them!

While You Were Away

While You Were Away is a great platform of experimental and professional works, focusing mainly on interactive design and information architecture. Simple and clean, WUWA's site is an excellent example of the importance of considering functionality and user experience when designing and developing an easy to navigate and easy to view portfolio.

Free and available for both PC and Mac.

Dalek: Desperate, Rejected & Angry

March 31, 2007 through April 28, 2007

JONATHAN LEVINE GALLERY
529 West 20th Street, 9E New York, NY 10011 ph:212-243-3822
Open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm

For Desperate, Rejected & Angry, DALEK formulates shapes found in the natural and mechanical world to create a continuous, abstract narrative. Drawing on wood panel and then painting in a dramatic color scheme, DALEK’s familiar characters form a subtle dialogue juxtaposed with darker backgrounds. For his new works, DALEK achieves a delicate balance of form amidst a hostile, violent and bleeding world. Each painting becomes an excerpt for an ambiguous story, unfolding notions of human survival.

Helvetica. A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit.

So this may be old news to a lot of you, but it's definitely worthy of a post just in case.

HELVETICA is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.
